Welcome to the Alapa Family page

The Alapas

Aloha, Hawaiian Surfing Adventures is run by Alapa Family. Hawaiian Surfing Adventures is family owned and operated.

Mitchell is born and raised of Hawaiian ancestry, he has been surfing his whole life. Born on Oahu’s North Shore in Hauula, he has lived on the island of Kauai since he was 2 years old. Growing up in Haena and Hanalei and then the small town of Anahola, he had access to some of the best surfing Hawaii has to offer. As anyone who meets him will tell you, he’s a very fun person to be around. His personality is infectious, and his knowledge of Hawaii and the ocean will put even the most timid at ease. He is great with the kids and he knows almost “everyone on Kauai” so often times students and then families feel they are really on the inside of life on Kauai rather then on the outside looking in.

His wife Lynn Alapa was born and raised in British Columbia Canada. She moved to Hawaii in 1973 where she fell in love with Mitchell. They do have many students that are from Canada and Mitch says we should also have a Canadian Flag down at the Grass Hut. They have two daughters and a son; Kanani their oldest daughter lives right here on Kauai and is in the service industry, Bridget has a family life with their three Grandchilden, Juliana who is 9 going into the 4th grade at Hanalei school, Curren who is 4 (still the side kick) and Koi who is going on 2, and Son Mitchell Boy who is very involved in the business, helping market as well as instruct he truly has enjoyed all of the water safety classes and has now completed his boat captain course (motor and sailing) and has his captains license. He does still surf every chance he gets and cares for his 3 Blue Nose Pitbulls.
