Aloha, Hawaiian Surfing Adventures is run by Alapa Family. Mitchell Alapa is born and raised of Hawaiian ancestry, he has been surfing his whole life. Born on Oahu’s North Shore in Hauula, he has lived on the island of Kauai since he was 2 years old. Growing up in Haena and Hanalei and then the small town of Anahola, he had access to some of the best surfing Hawaii has to offer. As anyone who meets him will tell you, he’s a very fun person to be around. His personality is infectious, and his knowledge of Hawaii and the ocean will put even the most timid at ease. He is great with the kids and he knows almost “everyone on Kauai” so oftentimes students and then families feel they are really on the inside of life on Kauai rather than on the outside looking in. His wife Lynn Alapa was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada. She moved to Hawaii in 1973 where she fell in love with Mitchell. They have two daughters and a son; Kanani, Bridget and Mitchell Boy. They also have three grandchildren; Juliana, Curren and Koi.

We want to share the beauty and excitement of Hanalei bay which is why we offer our lessons and board rental services! Our instructors are the real deal, they live and breathe surfing. Many of them are big wave riders and competitive surfers who know the ocean like the back of their hand. But more importantly, they know how to make sure you have a blast while learning. You’ll get the rundown on ocean safety, the basics of surfing, and before you know it, you’ll be riding waves with confidence. Every lesson comes with high-quality gear, including top-of-the-line surfboards, leashes, and custom rash guards. We’ve also developed a unique teaching style that’s helped tons of people stand up and surf faster than they ever imagined.

Hanalei. If you’re heading to Kauai, Hanalei Bay is a place you can’t miss. With its perfect crescent-shaped beach, warm turquoise water, and stunning mountain views, it’s one of the most breathtaking spots on the island. But what really makes it special? The waves. Hanalei Bay offers some of the best surfing conditions in Hawaii—gentle, rolling breaks near the shore that are perfect for beginners, and bigger sets farther out for those ready to level up. It’s the ideal place to learn, play, and fall in love with surfing. Plus, it’s one of the only sandy-bottom beaches on the North Shore, making it a safer and more forgiving spot to learn how to surf. That’s where Hawaiian Surfing Adventures comes in. Our surf school is located right on the bay, and we’ve got the local knowledge and good vibes to help you make the most of every wave. Whether it’s your first time on a board or you're ready to ride with more confidence, our experienced instructors will guide you every step of the way.
