Mitchell “Mitchell Boy” Alapa
Age: 39 | From: Kauai
Mitchell has been surfing since he was just 2 years old and has grown up surrounded by the waves of Kauai. Locals know him as “Mitchell Boy,” and he brings decades of ocean experience to every lesson he teaches. What he loves most about teaching surf lessons is watching people have fun with their friends and family, and showing them just how exciting surfing can be.
When he’s not in the water surfing, Mitchell loves free diving, hiking to waterfalls, or spending time with his close-knit family and friends on the island. People are often surprised to learn that he’s actually 39 years old—his youthful energy in the surf keeps everyone guessing!
His tip for first-time visitors to Kauai? Make sure to catch both a sunset and a sunrise—it’s the best way to experience the magic of the Garden Island. Inspired by the many instructors he grew up learning from, Mitchell describes his surf style as shaped by community, connection, and years of experience.
With a dolphin as his spirit animal, a mellow “cool, calm, and collective” vibe, and even a few funny wipeouts while learning to hydrofoil, Mitchell brings both skill and humor to Hawaiian Surfing Adventures.
